Cowboys hold off NFC East rival Giants in defensive battle

 

**EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.** – In Thursday night's game, the **New York Giants** and **Dallas Cowboys** faced off, both tied for last place in the NFC East with a 1-2 record. They trailed the **Washington Commanders** and **Philadelphia Eagles**, who were each 2-1. 

The **Cowboys** dominated early, scoring two first-half touchdowns and limiting the Giants to just three field goals, leading 14-9 at halftime. The second half remained a defensive standoff, with no touchdowns scored. **Dallas** ultimately secured their second win of the season, with a final score of **20-15**. However, star edge rusher **Micah Parsons** was carted off late in the game due to a left ankle/foot injury. Post-game X-rays were negative, and Parsons will undergo an MRI on Friday.

For the **Giants**, rookie receiver **Malik Nabers** left the game in the fourth quarter due to a concussion. 

### Dallas Cowboys

**Dak Prescott** did not address the media before the game but promised to speak "post-win." The **Cowboys** delivered on that promise, though it was not a flawless victory. After back-to-back home losses, all that mattered for Dallas was securing a win in this short week. With a **2-2** record, the Cowboys avoided what would have been their first three-loss September since 2001.

**Prescott** was sharp, especially in the first half, throwing touchdown passes to **CeeDee Lamb** (55 yards) and **Rico Dowdle** (15 yards). The Cowboys' defense stood strong, holding the Giants to five field goals and preventing any touchdowns.

**Prescott** extended his personal win streak against the Giants to **13 straight games**, tying the second-longest winning streak by a quarterback against a single opponent since 1950.

**Brandon Aubrey** stood out as well, with a 60-yard field goal in the third quarter—his third from that distance in his career, just one shy of the NFL record. 

Despite the win, the **Cowboys** have work ahead of them, especially in pass defense, with quarterbacks completing far too many passes in recent games.

### New York Giants

While the **Giants** kept the game close, they couldn’t clinch a victory. After being outscored 89-17 by the Cowboys in two meetings last season, this game marked progress, though Dallas continues to dominate the rivalry, winning **14 of the last 15 matchups**.

Quarterback **Daniel Jones** was efficient, completing **29 of 40 passes** for **281 yards**, but he struggled with deep throws. **Malik Nabers** was a bright spot before his injury, finishing with **12 catches for 115 yards**. He became the first NFL player with at least 25 receptions and three touchdowns in his first four games.

However, the Giants' **running game** faltered badly, managing only **26 rushing yards** against a Cowboys defense that had previously been the worst in the league in stopping the run.

The **Giants** will look to improve as they head into their next game against the **Seattle Seahawks**.
